books I’d like to be reading

In no particular order:

The Teacher Wars — Dana Goldstein (I’m about 3/4 of the way through, but haven’t found the time to finish.)

Creative Schools — Ken Robinson and Lou Aronica

Thinking, Fast and Slow — Daniel Kahneman (I’m somewhere in the middle of this brilliant book.)

Three by Cain — James M. Cain (I’ve finished one of the three short novels in this compilation.)

For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood . . . and the Rest of Y’all Too: Reality Pedagogy and Urban Education — Christopher Emdin

How We Learn — Benedict Carey

The Underground Railroad — Colson Whitehead

How to Win Friends & Influence People — Dale Carnegie

Mathematics in Western Culture — Morris Kline

Mathematics: The Loss of Certainty — Morris Kline

Something by Elmore Leonard

The Round House — Louise Erdrich

Scorecasting: The Hidden Influences Behind How Sports are Played and Games are Won — Tobias Jacob Moskowitz and L. Jon Wertheim

Thanks for the suggestions Hal. I will follow up on some of these. I liked Whitehead’s Apex Hides the Hurt best of his work – he also has a zombie novel which is written by him but is still a zombie novel. M:The Loss of Certainty was transitional for me in graduate school. The Round House might make your top 100 list.

Thanks, John. You help shift my priorities for these books.

I read Whitehead’s zombie novel — Zone One, which I reviewed on this blog. You can see it if you search for it.
