Inspiring, troubling, though-provoking, challenging, daunting—bell hooks is all this and more in Teaching to Transgress. If you’re following my blog at all, you know I will continue to read her and continue to be affected by that reading. Expect to see more from this book and more from hooks in general. If you haven’t read her, I recommend it for teachers and non-teachers alike. The prose is usually relatively easy, the ideas often complex and powerful. At the moment, the aspect of her work that I like best is that in all that she writes her will to live life fully and well, to love and work and play, and to fight for justice comes through clearly for all to see.
