most overrated — 4

Once again, books that came highly recommended, but didn’t even come close to living up to their billing.

In no particular order:

  1. jd2718 says:

What a service! I haven’t read any of those five – and now that seems like a good thing.

  2. halshop says:

I’m glad I could help. Of course, you might also consider my 100 top list to make sure you like my picks before deciding whether you want to trust my pans.

  3. jd2718 says:

That list is yours? I thought you were modifying someone else’s (I probably didn’t read carefully enough). I liked some of it, hadn’t read half of it, found a few I wasn’t wild about. What’s with all the Virginia Wolfe? And the Brontes and what’s her name?

  4. Someone must have SERIOUSLY overstated Prodigal Summer. I read it because I love Kingsolver. I wasn’t at all disappointed. In fact, I learned quite a bit about predator/prey dynamics along the way.

  5. catherine says:

I agree with you on the DV Code and Prodigal Summer. They exemplify mediocrity.

  6. halshop says:

jd: The list is mine. One of my not-so-secrets as a math teacher is that I studied English for quite awhile. So, yeah, I love Virginia Wolfe and the Brontes and what’s her name, too. You could think of it as akin to loving the mathematical work of Cantor.

Mags: I’m not wild about memes; they smack a little too much of chain mail for my craw. But since it was you, I will take it under serious consideration.
